Over the last few years I have spent a lot of time on XC bikes. For me, they are the perfect “one bike quiver" for my riding style. I love spending lots of time pedaling on road bikes for exercise but I also love singletrack and mountain bike downhills! Modern full suspension XC bikes blend both of these worlds together, with amazing pedaling platforms and stable geo’s. Get out of the saddle and crank on the pedals and you can get the road bike style cardio you want out of your ride, but at the top of climbs you still have the ability to let it rip on your favorite trails.

XC is where cardio meets fun and I am very stoked to have spent so much time on so many XC bikes! So what are the best XC bikes heading into 2026? These 6 bikes should be on your radar as they are from awesome brands that I can personally recommend and the bikes rip, each in their own way!

Yeti ASR: Best XC Bike of 2026

Yeti Cycles is no stranger to making high performance bikes, but they did take a little hiatus from XC before making their return with the Yeti ASR. And when we say that the ASR is a knock not only out of the park, but the entire stadium, we are not joking! Some brands have spent years with in house wind tunnels and full factory XC programs only to be outshined by one of the most comfortable and light weight XC bikes I have tested yet! With 115mm of rear travel, 120mm of front travel and a flex stay suspension, the ASR carbon construction and lightweight build make it an amazing all day endurance XC rig. The most awesome thing about the ASR is how much less fatigued you are at the end of your rides through its comfortable ride quality and also how light you can get this bike built up as!

Cannondale Scalpel: Best XC Bike of 2026

Cannondale has been making XC bikes for decades at this point and the Scalpel shows how much experience they have! With 120mm of front and rear travel, size proportional chainstays, a longer reach, and a horst link style flex stay suspension platform (the flex part is located on the chain stay) the Scalpel has been one of our favorite XC bikes of the year! It feels a bit more stable than the ASR, so if rowdy descents are in your future, we highly recommend it! For this test we also paired it with a Fox Neo shock and Lefty Ocho fork and that suspension combo was nothing short of magical!

Ari Signal Peak: Best Value XC Bike 2026

The Ari Signal Peak won the award for best value XC bike of 2026 but do not let that award fool you. This is not just another XC bike at an awesome price point, but rather this is one of the most confident inspiring XC bikes that has taken me through 167 miles of XC racing at 24 hours in the Old Pueblo and 7 days of brutal XC racing at the BC Bike Race! With 110mm of rear travel and 120mm of travel up front, this flex stay XC bike from the direct to consumer brand ARI bikes has one of the most capable feels to it out on the trails! This confidence comes from a stiffer frame profile and more trail style geo, with a long reach and shorter chainstays, making it the perfect bike to dominate your local trails but still have the ability to show up on race day! And it does all of that while remaining one of the best value XC bikes that is backed by a lifetime frame warranty and 30 day love it or return it guarantee! Plus you can customize the build to exactly what you want making it an amazing option from both riders trying to stick to a budget to riders trying to make their dream bike a reality!

Salsa Spearfish: Best Adventure XC Bike of 2026

The Salsa Spearfish was probably one of the most surprising XC bikes we tested this year! At it’s core, it is an adventure rider's dream XC bike. With 120mm of front and rear travel and a split pivot suspension platform to keep traction under braking at a maximum, the Spearfish rips the descents! A lot of its fun on the downhills can come back to its short rear chainstays allowing you to whip it around out on the trails! But the real adventure starts with the frame itself. With room for 3 bottles in the frame, and a frame geo that makes weighting the bike down with bike bags only enhance the ride experience, the Spearfish begs for you to cancel your weekend race and hit your local bikepacking routes for some multi day adventures! But don’t worry if you still want to show up to your XC race, it will probably still dominate there as well especially with the Rockshox Flight Attendant build!

Rocky Mountain Element: Most Capable XC Bike 2026

The Rocky Mountain Element won the award for the best descending XC bike of 2026 and for good reason! Rocky Mountain has always made amazing mountain bikes to crush technical downhills, which are plentiful in their backyard of BC! But how would this translate to XC? Turns out even when they make an XC bike, they still want it to be able to crush all of their favorite downhills, just in a XC race ready package! With 130mm of travel upfront stock (bumped down to 120 for this shootout) and 120mm of travel in the rear, the 4 position geo adjust allows you to take this flex stay XC bike all the way down to about 65 degrees in its slackest setting. And to compliment that slack headable, you have a very stiff profile frame allowing you to have a ton of confidence on the rowdiest of XC trails! So looking to put a huge smile on your face every downhill but still want to show up and throw down at your local XC races? The Element is the bike for you!

Pivot Mach 4SL: Most Technically Capable XC Bike 2026

If there are two things Pivot Cycles does very well, it’s make amazing bikes and make sure those bikes stay at the top for years to come! The Mach 4SL is not new by any means and has been out for a while now, however it still remains one of the best XC bikes on the market currently! It also gives riders a bit of a different flare on the XC segment! With 120mm of travel up front, 96 or 115 mm of travel in the year (depending on what position you put the shock in) and a DW Link suspension design, the Mach 4SL is a blast on technical terrain! With one of the softer suspension platforms, the traction is insane over tech but tightens up when you put the power down! And with a slightly shorter reach and wheelbase, it makes an amazing technical XC rig to make your way down the most technical terrain with ease. One of tne of the best technical XC bikes of 2026!

Happy Trails!
